Flash-back: 2006 Course and Safety

The course

AfficheAfficheFollowing verifications and departure which will take place in Paris, participants will hit the road like in the good ‘ole days for a quick trip across France. Then they’ll board a ship in Sète (or drive through Spain) in order to tackle, as soon as possible, the real challenges offered by the Moroccan roads. Navigation and sand challenges will start in Mauritania, before reaching Mali’s and Senegal’s wildly winding laterite routes, deep within the lush plant life.

Each day, the legs will stretch over approximately 400 km of exciting routes, allowing all participants to reach and fully enjoy the bivouacs set up along the way.

The Safety

Today, an expedition of this first TransAfricaine Classic’s scale and scope calls for major aid and rescue means suited for this type of race. A team of specialists will cover the entire rally to take care of any minor injuries directly in the field thanks to their medically equipped 4WDV and back-up helicopter.

A mini hospital will be set up to treat injuries at the finish line for each leg of the rally. And for more serious injuries, entrance fees include repatriation for health purposes insurance to get you home safely and quickly in case you need more elaborate care.

In addition, each team must carry a cellular phone (which will offer greater advantages over the traditional marker posts) to quickly notifying officials of any problems that arise along the journey.
