Regularity: How does it work?

webDSC_0039transafricaine_J.jpgThe main principle of this discipline is not to focus on top speeds, but rather on one’s ability to maintain a set average pace. Paces will be selected by each team based on their vehicle’s capabilities as well as the own, including an important decision regarding the type of ride you’re looking for (intense, or more relaxed).

At any rate, the pacing will emphasize performances of both the machine and that the people handling it.[nl)
So, on any given leg (aside from the connecting legs where we drive along paved or rather quick roads) there will be "Regularity Sectors" in which participants must maintain their set average speed to the second, no matter what the navigational or terrain challenges may entail, and without knowing where the RS ends (always kept a secret).

Naturally, these sectors (several each day) will be guided only by the road book and staying the course, no equipment for calculating averages is allowed on board.
