Eligibles Vehicles

1 - HISTORIC AUTOMOBILES

GROUP 1

Vehicles dating from pre-war through 1986 with 2 to 6 wheels, weighing at least 3.5 tons, all-terrain or not.

GROUP 2

The exact same vehicles as Group 1, but which have proof of having previously participated in a rally raid. The competitors entering the vehicle must prove the vehicle has indeed already participated in such an event by presenting the appropriate paperwork to this event’s organizers.

2 - CLASSIC AUTOMOBILES

GROUP 3

4WD all-terrain vehicles weighing at least 3.5 tons, from 1987 to 1991. No certification needed.

GROUP 4

4X4 all-terrain vehicles, weighing at least 3.5 tons, from 1992 to 1996. No certification needed.

3 - TRUCKS

GROUP 5

All-terrain trucks with 2 to 8 wheels, weighing over 3.5 tons, from 1945 to 2000. No certification needed.

4 - ROAD ASSISTANCE / RAID CATEGORY

This category is open to all 4x4, all-terrain vehicles dating from 1986 to 1996. Upon specific request, the organizers reserve the right to allow more recent, traditional 4x4 vehicles (i.e. Nissan GR, Toyota 78, etc.)

All-terrain trucks with 4 to 8 wheels dating from 1986 to 2000 are also accepted.

5 - MORE RECENT VEHICLES CATEGORY

(new)  Group 6

These vehicles will have their own, specific ranking, since their performances cannot be compared to those of participants enrolled in the Historic and/or Classic categories.

Traditional all-terrain 4x4 vehicles equipped with a transfer gear-box dating from 1997 to 2004.

No approvals necessary.

Except in Europe and Morocco, where the rest stops can be reached via paved roads, Raid/Assistance vehicles will follow the same routes as the competitors.
Each morning, they will leave a half-hour after the last competitors’ departure. No certification is needed for vehicles participating in this category.
Teams should include two or three people.

And what about motorcycles?

For this new event’s first edition, we have decided not to allow motorcycles. Although they have added great excitement to all the African rallies and forged their own true legend over the years, the safety measures that would need to be put into place and the budgets necessary to ensure their total safety during this challenge make their participation in this first year rather difficult for now. We do hope they will understand and forgive us, after all, this could be the perfect opportunity for a Cyril Neveu or a Cyril Després to try out a 4-wheeler, just for the FUN!
